Calypso is located in St Helens, Tasmania and is your gateway to the stunningly beautiful Bay of Fires, which was named the best beach in Australia in 2025.

Nestled close to the water, Calypso offers views of Georges Bay through the towering gums, creating a peaceful and inspiring environment. From the moment you step inside, you’ll find that every element of this home has been thoughtfully curated to bring in the beauty of the outdoors.

The Design Philosophy

Calypso was built in the 1960s and was designed to encourage a harmonious relationship between indoors and outdoors. Large windows and clean, geometric lines allow the beauty of the surrounding environment to become a focal point of the home. At Calypso, you’re never far from the sights and sounds of the bay, whether you’re sitting in the living room or relaxing on the back deck.

A Thoughtful Renovation

Our renovation journey has been a careful balance of preserving the home's midcentury charm while bringing it up to modern standards. Behind the scenes, we’ve updated the plumbing, electrics, and insulation, ensuring that Calypso is as functional as it is beautiful. While these upgrades may not be immediately apparent, they ensure the home is comfortable, energy-efficient, and ready for modern living.

Step inside, and you’ll immediately sense the thoughtful balance between midcentury modern elegance and modern-day comfort. The furniture, all sourced second hand, creates a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere. We’ve also made several aesthetic improvements, with new carpets, curtains, and a cozy wood heater that makes the house just as inviting on a chilly evening as it is in the warmth of summer. The result is a home that feels both classic and contemporary and has sustainability at its core.

We offer quality bed linen with crisp sheets, plush doonas, and stylish throws to make for a comfortable retreat and to help you sleep soundly.

We’ve also adorned the walls with original artworks that reflect the coastal surroundings. Many of these pieces feature boats, capturing the essence of our location in the vibrant fishing village of St Helens.

The new back deck, complete with a BBQ area, offers an ideal place for outdoor dining and relaxation. Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee, a sunset cocktail, or a meal with friends, the deck is the perfect spot for alfresco dining.

Our native garden enhances this connection to nature. Designed with the local climate and ecology in mind, the garden features hardy native plants and a variety of fruit trees (apple, pear, apricot, plum, lemon and lime) that create a sustainable outdoor space. The garden not only adds beauty and texture to the property but also supports local wildlife.
